CAYJ supports the Voice to Parliament
The Central Australian Youth Justice (CAYJ) Network supports the Voice to Parliament as a step toward meaningful recognition and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, through an enshrined Voice in the Constitution.
CAYJ acknowledges the vital importance of First Nations voices in the fight toward a just system that upholds the rights of children and young people. CAYJ acknowledges the impacts of ongoing colonisation, racism and discrimination that has resulted in extreme overrepresentation of Aboriginal children and young people in both the child protection and youth justice systems, and further acknowledges that Aboriginal people have all too often been excluded from decision making spaces that effect their communities, children and young people. We know that Aboriginal people hold the knowledge and solutions to address these injustices.
CAYJ joins the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (CAAC), the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group, NAAJA, Children’s Ground, NTCOSS, Jesuit Social Services and countless others in their call to vote YES on October 14th.
